Pick-Ups of the Week

Every Saturday I’m going to start posting a “Pick-ups of the Week” post.  I figured Saturday would be a good day to do it because weekly gamers have to get their line-ups in by Sunday.  Probably usually focus on hitters, but I’ll try and mix in some pitchers every once in a while If they are truly worthy of a roster spot.

Nick Punto (2B,3B,SS) STL

  • Nick Punto is back from his early season abdominal injury and looks to be the major benefactor of the Skip Schumaker elbow problem.  Punto isn’t a great power or average guy but has above average speed and is eligible at multiple positions.  He’s a decent MI option at least for the next couple of weeks.

Jerry Sands (OF) LAD

  • Jerry Sands has most likely already been picked up in your league, but if for some reason he’s still out there grab him.  He’s been struggling a little in his first couple of games but has major power upside, and the Dodgers don’t have much in the way of LF competition for him.

Clint Barmes (2B,SS) HOU

  • Clint Barmes is expected to be back in the Astros line-up next Friday when Houston starts their 3 game series with Milwaukee. Angel Sanchez has played well in Barmes’ absence, but Bill Hall has been struggling over at 2B.  My guess is Barmes immediately becomes the starting shortstop with Sanchez and Hall splitting time at second base.

Scott Cousins (OF) FLA

  • Scott Cousins seems to be the replacement LF for Logan Morrison who is out with a foot injury.  Cousins is known mostly for his above average defense.  So far this season he’s hitting .211 with 1 HR in 19 at bats.  If your in a pinch in the outfield, Cousins might be worth a look.

Jason Pridie (OF) NYM

  • Jason Pridie got the start in CF with Angel Pagan hitting the DL.  I would expect Pridie to split time with Willie Harris while Pagan is out of action.
